We’ve reached the Letter N on the A to Z Blog Challenge and have arrived in Narnia.   I venture to say that most of you reading this little post are familiar with the maps of Narnia and the author of The Chronicles, C. S. Lewis. The art and the maps of the original The […]

I am participating in the A to Z April Blog Challenge which encourages people to write posts on a theme each day (except Sunday)  with the alphabet determining each day’s topic. Kingdom Maps in Kid Lit

What’s a literary kingdom without a map? Fantasy is the genre where fantastic maps abound. Maps provide guides to adventures held within the pages.  For today’s April A to Z Blog Challenge, I’d like to share some series that will bring you into some very different kingdoms. The Kingdom of Wrenly by Jordan Quinn (author) […]

J is for the Journey

J is for the Journey

For me a journey begins with a map. I like to look at an overview and then the details. I like all kinds of maps – physical, political, topographical, climatic, thematic, and good old road maps. I was excited to find a series of books that celebrate journeys written by Martha Day Zschock and published […]

G is for Geography in the A to Z of Literary Maps

One of the most dramatic areas of geographic study is that of the movement of people escaping war, drought, and terrorism. This is not a new phenomena but goes back to the dawn of history. There so many gripping stories of refugees and today I’d like to share of of the most beautiful and emotionally […]

E is for Endpapers – Literary maps from A to Z

It is said that you can’t always tell a book by its cover but I think you can tell a lot about a book by its Endpapers. Endpapers are the first peek a reader gets when opening a book. These two pages at the front and back are an opportunity for the illustrator to creatively […]

Posted @withregram • @robinhaart Of all the incr Posted @withregram • @robinhaart Of all the incredible images that flooded my media yesterday, this photo by @glennondoyle of two women #senate aids rescuing the boxes containing the #electoral #votes stood out to me. This image perfectly illustrates what #Strength is about. Strength is not about oppressing others with power. It is about doing the right thing, and calmly carrying out our duties in a time of peril. Despite the delay caused by the #domesticterrorists, our government resumed and announced @joebiden and @kamalaharris as our next president and vice president. And Georgia has elected two democratic senators @jonossoff @raphaelwarnock, who is the first Black senator to be elected in Georgia. This was possible because the majority of ordinary Americans have done their duty and voted, and countless people have organized and volunteered and donated their time and money to protect our voting rights. They are our true heroes.
I hope all the government officials who have been elected will uphold their duty to carry out the will of the people.
We’re celebrating National Bird Day with THE SKY We’re celebrating National Bird Day with THE SKY PAINTER: Louis Fuentes, Bird Artist written by Margarita Engle and illustrated by Aliona Bereghici. Written in first person poems, readers are introduced to the “Father of Modern Bird Art” who was repelled by the practice of killing and mounting birds to paint them. He traveled the world and painted birds in their natural habitat and encouraged wildlife conservation. Children love this book as it shows how Louis Fuentes became enthralled with birds as a child. Beautifully told with gorgeous illustrations- highly recommended! We followed up by making little treats for our neighborhood birds. @engle.margarita #nationalbirdday #kidlit #picturebookbiographies #birdwatching @mrernierecommends
