Mermaids have found their way into songs, movies, and literature..
One of my favorite poems is The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. It was written by T.S. Eliot whose last name, of course, begins with E.
Here are the final verses:
Egypt also begins with E which is where Hungarian explorer Laszlo Almasy discovered prehistoric cave drawings in the 1930’s. Some of the painted figures resemble swimming mermaids. The cave, known as the Cave of the Swimmers, is located in the Sahara desert of southwest Egypt near the border of Libya. The prehistoric paintings were estimated to have been created 10,000 years ago. Scientists believe that this region once was lush and green and contained large lakes. The Animal Planet channel used these pictures as proof of the existence of mermaids in their controversial documentary, Mermaids: The Body Found.

That’s debatable – this Animal Planet program got huge ratings but their science was rather questionable.
Fabulous to see how mermaids have been celebrated or at least part of our various cultures for such a long time. Love the Egyptian prehistoric painting.

Can’t think of one off the top of my head, but I’ve always loved mermaid stories–something so beautiful about them.

I love them, too. At least most of them. I’ve come across some rather disturbing legends but definitively enjoy the happier ones.
