N is for Norway and that’s where we’re heading today.
The Christmas Wish
by Lori Evert (author) and Per Breiehagen (photographer)
featuring their daughter, Anja
Random House Children’s Books:2013
picture book ages 2-7
I read The Christmas Wish to a group of kindergartners today and they were mesmerized from start to finish. I was too – we all felt that we had traveled from sunny California to winter in Norway.
This story follows Anja, a little girl with a wish. She wants to help Santa on Christmas Eve so she decides to go and look for him. But first, she must help the elderly neighbor by catching her naughty cat, decorating the gingerbread house and sweeping the snow from the sauna. She studies the map of Norway, puts on her skis and heads north.
Fortunately, animals help her on her journey.
This book is absolutely breathtaking. The photographs of the traditional clothing and homes, the snow, the Northern Lights,
and Anja’s interactions with the animals
make this a classic book to read over and over –no matter what season it is.
This is a picture of Savannah enjoying The Christmas Wish. On the back of the book it says:
Be Brave.
Be kind.
Believe.
Such good advice!
