According to my calendar (and Google), summer began on June 20th and will end on September 22nd. This means, by my calculations, that today should be considered midsummer. When I was a child, school always began after Labor Day. Around here, many schools will be starting this week with temperatures in the 100’s! It just doesn’t seem right.
I love long summer days and I plan on staying outside until it is dark. Here are some of my plans to keep a summer state of mind:
1. Read by the river – I have a stack of books that I am looking forward to sharing with you.
2. Learn something new. (I’m learning to paint rocks. I joined a group that hides them in random places for people to find)
3. Go to an outdoor concert
4. Play bocce ball on the beach.
5. Send postcards – everyone loves to get mail. Check out Postcrossings to join the fun.
6. Look up at the sky – I’ll be going to Oregon to watch the eclipse.
7. Take a hike – the waterfalls are amazing in Yosemite.
8. Go to a food truck festival – Gazebo Gardens is the place to be for the REFORMA get together Aug. 17th
9. Make a playlist of summer songs
10. Pick fruit and make jam … and a pie
11. Float down the Kings River with the Kings Queens
12. Welcome my new granddaughter (due August 13th)

School has started for me, so my summer is over. 🙁 But these activities look like fun. How neat to have a new granddaughter soon!
Well, half of the list is completed… so it hasn’t been a bad summer at all!
I’ve read some books about Greece, my travel destination in August. Now I’m enjoying Number 11, by Jonathan Coe.
