TWO DOGS ON A TRIKE
Written by Gabi Snyder (author) and Robin Rosenthal (illustrator)
Abrams Appleseed May 2020
Picture book ages 2-6
Themes: dogs, transportation, counting
Settings: land, air, water, and space
The story begins:
One dog stands alone.
With this simple sentence the reader is invited into the pages where they can join an ever-increasing number of dogs as they roll, scoot, fly, and float on all modes of transportation.
They don’t see, however, that they are being followed – by a sneaky cat!
Panic-stricken, a countdown ensues as the dogs retrace their journey. In a twist, the story begins again with a new cast of characters.
Why you need to add Two Dogs On A Trike to your picture book collection:
- This is an example of a true picture book where the retro 80’s illustrations combine perfectly with the text to create a fast-paced humorous story.
- The dogs (and cat) each have their own unique personality. The expressions on their faces are expressive and convey their strong emotions.
- The clear, concise rhyming text is perfect to read aloud. I predict this will be one of the first books many children will learn to read on their own.
- Children will love to go through this book over and over looking for and counting each dog as they practice the math concept of adding on and then subtracting.
- Transportation, dogs, and a cat in a counting book… Two Dogs On A Trike is a modern day classic!

It does. In fact, Gabi used Go, Dogs, Go! as inspiration.
