It is only 10 days until April and for many bloggers that means it’s time for the annual A to Z Blog Challenge! Perhaps it is fitting that the challenge begins on April Fool’s Day because some would think it foolish to blog daily (except Sundays) with each blog post being written in alphabetical order.
The A to Z Blog Challenge began in 2010 when Arlee Bird encouraged other bloggers to post alphabetically for the month of April.
I’m participating for the third time and am excited to be a member of Pam’s Unconventional Alliance.
Our fearless ring leader is A to Z Co-host Pam Margolis who blogs at An Unconventional Librarian. I actually met her in real life at a blogging conference and I know for a fact that she knows how to have a good time. Also joining Pam’s Alliance Team are Shalini, Rajlakshmi, and Parul. You can learn more about us by checking out this post. We’ll be helping Pam by popping in on many blogs to see how things are going.
Many A to Z bloggers choose a thematic approach to blogging through the month and today is the Theme Reveal! So, here’s mine:
Living in a Mermaid World from A to Z!
I am currently working on a project involving mermaids so I decided to organize my research from A to Z and write posts about what I find. I’ll be sharing books, movies, songs, poetry, and lots of interesting information about mermaids from around the world.
Check in to learn:
• When and where mermaids were first sighted
• Why there is a mermaid on the Starbuck’s logo
• What I will find for the letters Q and Z
It’s not too late to join the party. Here’s the link to the A to Z Sign Up List. Take some time to visit other bloggers participating in the challenge.
Do you have any A to Z mermaid suggestions? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
That’s going to be a challenge finding mermaid related stuff for X n Q! Hats off for choosing such an original and tough theme. Good luck and here’s to a great month

Claire, I love mermaids and look forward to reading your posts.I was just reading something online the other day about an upcoming kidlit book regarding a mermaid school.
Hi Cynthia, I’m having fun finding mermaids to match each letter. If you come across the name of the upcoming book, let me know.
What a fun theme, really unique 🙂 I’m already intrigued what you’re going to do on awkward letter days!

I have way too many things for the letters M and S so I’m going to have to be creative on difficult letter days. Thanks for stopping by.
I’m intrigued. I’ve always had a soft spot for half-human, half animal creatures, I don’t onow why.

Yes, I was the kid who spent all day in the pool pretending to be a mermaid. I’m trying to explore mermaids around the world and have found some really interesting stories. Do you know of any French mermaids?

Sounds like such a great theme Claire. I don’t know much about Mermaids. Are they for real? I am now curious to know more.
Hi Parul,
I don’t know if they are real or not but I am definitely trying to find out.
Here is a suggestion you may have thought of, but…..how about research on illustrators that are children book artists. Mermaid song lyrics? See you in April.
Great suggestion – especially since I hay too many things to post for the letter M.
I love Mermaids! I have one who’s lost a tooth in one of my work-in-progress picture books.
Now, I have a short funny thing that happened to me. I always thought sirens were mermaids, but when I did some research, the Greek sirens are winged creatures. I wonder how those fowl turned into fish. Do you happen to know?
Hi Jen, I’d love to know more about your WIP picture book – it sounds fun and intriguing
I also thought sirens were mermaids. I’ll check this out and report back..
What a fun idea. I remember wanting to be a mermaid so bad when I was younger! lol
Yes, we had all sorts of mermaid games. Now you can even buy mermaid tails and fins to wear!
