We have a new baby in our lives, and we dream of the places we can take her.
Fortunately, we can start her travels early through books. Barefoot Books has just published a wonderful new series of board books, and we begin with
OUR WORLD: FRANCE
Words by Evelyne Holingue and art by Marguax Carpenter
Barefoot Books – Our World Series 2022
Board book for ages 1-4
The story begins –
Bébé is waking up.
Doudou too. Bonjour!
What, you may wonder, is a Doudou?
Page by page, toddlers are shown with their favorite doudous which are lovies – stuffed toys or favorite blankies cherished by little ones. The clever text, written in English with French words and expressions, follows children, accompanied by their doudous, through a day in France. The bright and colorful illustrations feature diverse families enjoying meals, walks, music, games, baths, and bedtime. The last two spreads feature cheerful illustrations and explanations of the French phrases.
This delightful book engages little ones as they search each page for the doudous and see how children live in France and learn how much we all have in common.
This is such a happy book, perfect for introducing another place and language and should be added to school, public, and family libraries. We’re looking forward to reading and vicariously traveling through the other books in the Our World Series.

Here is a little French recipe which all ages love. Feel free to use whatever fruit is in season. Bon appétit !

Evelyne Holingue says
Merci, Claire for this lovely blog post! You are so kind. Bébé Alice is adorable! The photo you took is simply perfect.
And your clafoutis recipe sounds so yummy. I adore clafoutis, too, and have made so many to my own kids. The traditional French clafoutis is using unpitted cherries, but I have done it, like yours, with all kinds of berries and always with unpitted fruit. I became quite an American when it comes to safety 🙂
Thank you again SO much for your unwavering support.
