Welcome to A Field Trip Life where I am posting through the alphabet during the April A to Z Blog Challenge. My theme this year is Alphabet Books and today’s letter is V.
V is for Venus Flytrap: A Plant Alphabet
By Eugene Gagliano (author) and Elizabeth Traynor (illustrator)
Sleeping Bear Press 2009
Nonfiction alphabet book for ages 6 to 10
Who isn’t fascinated by carnivorous plants? I picked up V is for Venus Flytrap: A Plant Alphabet because of the title and awesome cover. I was a bit disappointed, however, when I saw that not many unusual plants are included in this alphabet book. It is more of a general overview of plants.
In typical alphabet form, each letter focuses on a different aspect of the plant world such as deciduous trees, evergreens, and grains. A short poem introduces each topic and then additional information is included in sidebars. The lush, rich watercolor illustrations are full of detail and make this an exceptionally beautiful book.
This is one of many alphabet books published by Sleeping Bear Press.
Do you recognize this famous carnivorous plant from Little Shop of Horrors?
