I LOVE books (mostly books for kids) so I was thrilled to learn about International Book Giving Day on February 14th. You can read about it on Amy Broadmoore’s blog, Delightful Children’s Books.
February 14th! Valentine’s Day! I LOVE Valentine’s Day so now I know what I want to do to celebrate this year.
What child doesn’t need a book? Unfortunately, books aren’t a priority for many cash strapped families. So… let’s have a book drive to get books to children who don’t have them.
The kids at Hanford Christian School are always up for a challenge and they brought in books by the dozen. They filled a big yellow wagon with gently read and brand new books. At this point they have collected over 200! They will be taken to the local food pantry and included with boxes for families.
One of the books I reviewed for Multicultural Children’s Book Day is heading to China for a boy I met in the orphanage in Changchun. He is learning English as he is hoping to be adopted by a family in the United States. (contact me for more information)
My friend, Evelyne, is also participating. You can read about her Valentine’s adventures as a French woman experiencing this American holiday for the first time here.
Oh, did I say I LOVE Valentine’s Day? Bring on the doilies, glitter, ribbon, lace and flowers! I decorate with Valentine books:

We’ve saved handmade cards from my 4 little sweeties:
Cupid makes an annual visit (you’d never guess how old he is):
Look what arrived this morning!
We used to have an annual mother-daughter tea but the girls have gone their own ways. I guess we can’t keep our children from growing up.
Well, that’s life. I am off to the wine country in Paso Robles with my own true love!
Cheers!

This is a lovely post, Claire, and I really think that you will make happy kids with your books donations. And your photos are really good. I love the heart card from when your kids were small. . So adorable! Happy Valentine’s Day in Paso Robles.
