Girls on the go at Happy Go Smile

Here at A Field trip Life, I’m always on the lookout for places to go, people to meet, and books to read. Field trips aren’t just for kids. Grownups need to get out and about. And there are times when girlfriends just need to do something a bit different together.

Dee, Mary and Naida are dear friends who offered to help me repaint my book shelves at the Cayucos house. These gals are creative and get right to work.

But, there needs to be time for fun, too. So, off we went to my new favorite shop, Happy Go Smile.

Happy Go Smile is just what its name suggests – a happy place where you can’t help but smile. Barb is the owner and this is a place where you can eat yummy cupcakes, shop for all sorts of fun things and make art. We wanted to browse but Barb ushered us right to the back where all sorts of art supplies were set up for our very own private workshop.

We were instructed to think of a word or a phrase to use as the theme of the collage we would make. I chose “Field Trip,” Naida chose “Amazing Grace”, Dee’s phrase was “peace and contentment,” and Mary used the phrase “you are my sunshine.”

We finger painted our canvases (I had forgotten how much fun it is to squish paint around) and did collages with letters and pictures to create our happy  go pieces of art. While we were working, the skies opened up and rain poured down. It was so nice and cozy in the shop listening to the rain while painting and pasting.

We finished up by eating cupcakes and enjoying our time with Barb who is absolutely one of the nicest and friendliest ladies I’ve ever met. Here’s our finished work:
