My “Must Read” list for 2016
Do you have a list of books that you are waiting to read? I do and I am not alone. I often discover new books to read from other book bloggers. One of my favorite bloggers is Carrie Gelson who has issued a challenge to list books that are must reads in 2016 on her blog, There’s a Book for That. I’m a bit late but here are the books at the top of my stack:
Don’t Judge a Bird by its Feathers by Tori Nighthawk (author and illustrator)
(I’ll be reviewing this picture book for Multicultural Children’s Book Day)
Enchanted Air: Two Cultures, Two Wings: a Memoir by Margarita Engle (Because everything she writes is amazing)
Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan (favorite author)
The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes (another favorite author)
Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo (and another favorite author)
Francine Poulet Meets the Ghost Racoon by Kate DiCamillo (author) and Chris Van Dusen (Illustrator)
(This is a spin off of the Mercy Watson series which, if you haven’t read yet, you should)
Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer by Kelly Jones and Katie Kath (illustrator)
(The title alone makes me want to read this one)
Stella by Starlight by Sharon M. Draper
(I received this from the publisher at ALA but haven’t read it yet)
The Princess Bride by William Goldman
(Because I’m the only one on the planet who hasn’t watched “The Princess Bride” and I want to read the book first)
Yes Day! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal (author) and Tom Lichtenheld (illustrator)
(Everything by this author is wonderful and Yes! is my one little word of the year.)
Here’s a link to my list of other Yes! books.
The Ladies of Managua by Eleni N. Gage
(Because Yes! is my word of the year I agreed to go to Nicaragua when invited. This is the only book I could find about this country. I’m leaving in four days.)
Nuptste and Lhotse Go to Iceland by Jocey Asnong
(I want to go to Iceland someday.)
The Case for Loving: The Fight for Interracial Marriage by Selina Alko and Sean Qualls (This story needs to be shared)
Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear by Lindsay Mattick (author) and Sophie Blackall (illustrator)
(Who doesn’t love Winnie the Pooh?)
Winnie the Pooh by A. A.Milne (author) and E. H. Shepard (illustrator) (see reason above – some books just need to be reread)
For the Right to Learn – Malala Yousafzai’s Story by Rebecca Langston-George (author) and Janna Bock (illustrator)
(I am inspired by Malala’s courage)
Big Magic – Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert (I want to be brave.)
I know that my list will grow but I think I am off to a great start.

Love that you are joining in! Some wonderful titles here. Echo and Stella by Starlight were top books from 2015 for me.

This is a cool list, Claire. I’ve already read a few of the books. Yeah! And I’ve loved them all. I find Echo really good. I love Margarita’s Memoir. I also have another book from Kevin Henkes that I love: Waiting.
